Windows Vista not Genuine!!!

Sometimes Microsoft's servers are a little off. You can try going to
Microsoft's site and downloading a file that required a copy of Genuine
windows. Sometimes when you do that, it convinces Windows that it is
genuine again... Sometimes, it requires a restart, also.

And sometimes it just screws you over and forces you to reinstall
windows or buy a new license? =)

"...or buy a new license"
Never, although some may misunderstand the message and think so.
But those who know what they bought, should know correctly.

You probably updated a driver or something minor like that.

Windows Activation is likely still in beta since this type of issue so
easily throws it for a loop.

Just call the re-Activation hotline and get your new Big Number - Usually,
it only takes several minutes...

So wait, everytime a driver is updated microsoft has to be called and
begged for a new activation!?!?!

Hahahahaha.....lovely....

"begged..." I don't think so. It's more like making a fast-food order at
the drive-thru...
Hahahahaha.....lovely....

Yup - It's definitely a freaking nuisance...

It shouldn't be necessary to have to prove one is not a thief for
software one has paid for with hard earned cash. If MS thinks someone is
stealing from them, they should contact the proper legal authorities,
not place their paying customers in the cross fire between MS and the
pirates.
Yup - It's definitely a freaking nuisance...

It's also an insult to paying customers.

i have a similar problem except i cannot access anything on my computer. i
bought vista through the digital locker, via circuit city, around the time of
vista release, however as of yesterday as soon as i choose a profile on my
computer i get a black screen that says in the lower right hand corner that
vista is not genuine. i cannot activate it via internet because my computer
will not connect and i cannot activate over the phone because it does not
give me the code for activation.

Have you tried doing it in Safe Mode with Networking?

I had the same problem on one of my computers. Use system restore off your
install CD to roll back the last MS patch, which should get you back into
the computer. Turn off automatic updates before connecting to the internet,
or you'll be right back where you started.

Next, what you do is up to you. I backed up, wiped the disk, and
reinstalled. After that, everything worked great.

Just for fun, run "winver" to see if the version of windows it's displaying
is the same one you'd installed. If not, let us know, 'cause that would be
interesting.

I all. Got exactly the same message today on my system "This Copy of Windows
is not Genuine"
Winver only states that the software is licensed to me, but does not give
any more info
Should it show something else?

I cannot find an "activation hotline". Called technical support and they
cannot help me over the phone and had to submit an online ta request. They
tell me it may take up to 24 hours!!! This is so unacceptable. I work out
of my home and now all of my files are not accessible. I am not happy with
Windows Vista. I think Microsoft spends a great deal of energy on trying to
make sure that no one rips them off. Of course, eventually the hackers will
figure it out and get around them. In the mean time, the rest of us have
this lousy product on our computer that is made by this paranoid conglomerate
corporation that works like shit!!! Can you tell I am not happy....geesh
