Windows not genuine

I bought my new computer direct from Dell a couple of months ago, with Vista
installed. All of a sudden, I get a message in the lower right telling me

Windows Vista
Build 6000
This Copy of Windows is not genuine.

I don't see how it can be not genuine.....it came installed!
What should I do now?

I have a Genuine copy, but I too have had the same experience. Mine occurred
after I had re-imaged my hard drive. All I did when the 'not genuine'
message appeared was reboot the machine and the message went away. I should
add that this problem has occurred on numerous occasions 'but' only after
the drive has been re-imaged.

You could check to see if the software is actually genuine (see this link on
my website: http://vistasupport.mvps.org/is_your_copy_of_vista_genuine.htm )

If your copy is genuine, then I'm assuming it is probably a bug within
Vista. I haven't come across a solution to the problem yet, although, as
I've said, simply rebooting has cured mine on every occasion.

Waste of time.

The only solution (unfortunately retrospective) is Don't buy Dell, don't buy
Vista.

Then what are you doing in the Vista group? Shouldn't you be trolling in
the Ubuntu group?

Wipe it off your hard drive and install Ubuntu. Then contact Dell and ask
for your money back for the p.o.s. Vista that they preloaded on your
computer. That's what I'd do if confronted with such bullshit from
Microsoft.

I had the same problem yesterday after the installing latest Windows Updates.
I fixed this problem by going to www.microsoft.com/genuine & clicked on
the "Validate Windows" box.
After I had re-validated my computer & rebooted & it went away.

Didn't hit a hot button, maybe your "talents" could be better served helping
all those Ubuntu users with their problems. Or are all those posts just
made up?

I help when I can. I might add that the Ubuntu groups have helped me a lot.

Alias, I though you were an expert on Linux Just giving one group could show
a gap in your ability.

I'm not an expert on Linux or Windows. No one is. That's the group I go
to for help and, so far, it has been very helpful. If you want to post
as me and post "correctly", change your nick to "Alias" and have a go at it.
