Is this the problem you are having?

From Zachd (a Microsoft employee):

"If you reboot and this still happens, please run:
unregmp2.exe /UpdateWMPVersion
from a cmd.exe prompt opened as an Administrator. (It will only work if you
open cmd.exe as an administrator.)"

Speaking for myself only.
See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info.

So, all of a sudden my media player is not working. When I try to open it,
I
get the following message:
The file wmploc.dll has a version number of 11.0.6000.6344 where
11.0.6000.6336 was expected. Windows Media Player is not installed
properly
and must be reinstalled.

Well, it won't let me reinstall it because apparently the version on the
website is older than the one on my computer. What the hell do I do? Help
would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!

Tried your web page opened as the administrator and am absolutely exhausted

Web page???

In the Start Search box above the Start Orb type cmd , when "cmd.exe" appears
at the top of the Start Menu, right click on it and select "Run as
Administrator".

In the Command window type: unregmp2.exe /UpdateWMPVersion
and press Enter.

This solution is from Zachd, a Microsoft employee, and the lead developer of
Windows Media Player (I think).

It is called an "in-place upgrade." Of course all updates, patches, and
some drivers need to be reinstalled following an in-place upgrade.
