Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories and right-click
on the Command Prompt and choose "Run as administrator".
Type in: SFC /SCANNOW and press your Enter key.

This procedure will scan Vista's protected system files
and attempt to repair or replace missing or corrupt files.

Thanks for the response, but I get this message when i try to download the
correct version:

"There is a more recent version of Windows media Player
(11.0.6000.6344) already installed on your computer. It is not possible to
use an older installation package (11.0.5721.5146) to install files or to
repair your current version of the player.)

I think wmploc version .6344 was part of a cumulative update (see KB 941651)
if you do not do automatic updates you might want to check out the knowledge
base article. The update might not have completed successfully so that you
now have a mixed version.

try this - it worked for me
go to uninstall programmes and uninstall kb941651, restart then use auto
updates to install available updates .
it may just have been the new updates that were available today though

In Control Panel (Classic view) > Programs and Features, click the "View
installed updates" link in the left blue pane to see the list of installed
Windows Updates.

I tried this but got that the scan only could do 98% total as there were
corrupt files that couldn't be fixed !!! And yet I have today installed
Windows One Care so how comes that didn't pick it up

From Zachd (a Microsoft employee):

"If you reboot and this still happens, please run:
unregmp2.exe /UpdateWMPVersion
from a cmd.exe prompt opened as an Administrator. (It will only work if you
open cmd.exe as an administrator.)"

So, all of a sudden my media player is not working. When I try to open it,
I
get the following message:

11.0.6000.6336 was expected. Windows Media Player is not installed
properly
and must be reinstalled.

Well, it won't let me reinstall it because apparently the version on the
website is older than the one on my computer. What the hell do I do? Help
would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!
