Greetings,

Just a few minutes ago, Windows Mail caused some problems.
1. A newsgroup show 8 messages unread, but when I click on 'Next unread message' Mail said 'there are no more messages, got to next
newsgroup?'. It is the only newsgroup that shows this.
2. A blank screen, something I can't explain, appeared over the screen of Mail. I could not access the Start Button. I did an
<ctrl><alt><del> and picked 'Task Manager', but it never appeared.
3. I could do <alt><tab> to get to another application or the desktop, but nothing else. I tried to shut down and but couldn't get
to the button. Nothing would work.

This isn't the first time Windows Mail had done strainge things. At present it show no messages but when I first click this
newsgroup it show thousands of messages. Now they are all gone.

Windows Vista Mail just doesn't work yet.

It is the only newsgroup that shows this.

When that happens, I sometimes have to click on Tools, then
Get Next 300 Headers a few times to get it to download at
least the headers of the missing messages.

Looks like you need to download and install this fix, with Windows
Mail not running:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090

Although it's labelled as for mail stuck in the Outbox, it also works in
other folders. If you don't know whether to use the 32-bit version or
the 64-bit version, try the 32-bit version first. Certain common
antivirus programs, such as most of those from Norton or McAfee,
tend to cause these and other problems in Windows Mail, although
seldom immediately, so if you have such a program, remember where
to find the fix and hope it will work again. A recent version of the
Trend antivirus program also causes assorted problems in Windows
Mail.

This is a known problem. No fix yet. They're called "ghost messages" by
those of us trying to figure it out.

Bob,

AVG and I don't think that is the problem.

The problem appears as;
1. Display/image unable to display.
2. The OS unable to decide what is being displayed and then what to do.
3. Reboot and things are back to normal.

Robert,

I have done that and it doesn't help.

I have even unscribed, rebooted, and then scribed again and no change. Then one day everything was fine. (I can't remember is I
got a Windows Update?)

By the way, under Tools>Options>Read>News> I uncheck the get headers. Thus it get all headers.

Today, just a few minutes ago, the 8 unread messages are gone.
