Windows Mail

I have gone into Window Mail this morning and the inbox shows messages unread
but the pane is blank. The rest of the folders are ok - except Junk - which
also says 5 messages but the panes says nothing to view.

Please can anyone help - I am on Visa.

I can't help with the problem, but the same thing happened to me Sunday. My
inbox shows 3600 messages, but I can't see any of them. According to some
posts, this could just be a setting problem. Make sure "show all messages"
is showing in the upper right drop down bar. If it is, then you are having
the same problem I am, one that does not seem to have a solution. Meanwhile,
set up your e-mail addresses with Windows Live, Yahoo or other online
provider. Also make sure you set Windows Mail to only download messages upon
your approval and not automatically. If you don't it will download messages
you can't read. This is a frustrating problem and hopefully someone out
there can fix it.

For what it is worth, I have always had many messages in my Inbox for many
years. It has not been a problem for me. I do however use rules to get most
messages into folders so that my messages are conveniently categorized for
me. It is easy enough to follow the advice of the experts, but I have never
seen an explanation of why it is a problem to keep messages in the Inbox.

Having many messages in your Inbox was a problem for Outlook
Express, not so much for Windows Mail. OE used the more fragile
method of storing all messages in a specific folder in one .dbx file.
Windows Mail stores each message as a separate .eml file, which
is less prone to a catastrophic loss due to file corruption.

I personally find it more orderly to keep my Inbox relatively clean,
because when I have messages in the Inbox it reminds me that I
haven't taken action on those yet. It's a method for separating
messages requiring action from those for which my action is
completed.

I am not sure what causes the Inbox of WM to lose emails...

Perhaps because all Windows Mail development was stopped by executive fiat
in June 2006 when Vista was still in beta?!

That all sounds reasonable and logical.

Sometimes it is difficult to know whether something is insurance or
paranoia. Certainly if the investment is minimal, as in this case, it is
reasonable to call it insurance.

Thanks. The older I get, the more I want my life simplified by
sticking to orderly and logical rules.
