Windows validation failed

My local repair shop has somehow installed windows xp professional on my pc.
Previously my pc contained a legitimate version of windows xp home edition
(installed by the manufacturer)! Now I can not update because the validation
has failed (VLK blocked on Pro edition). Is there anything I can do to
receive the updates (which Iwas able to do previously)? Sermons about the
risks of using a local repair shop are fully justified but definitely not
required!
Is it possible to retrieve the original home edition product key from my pc
(if so - how?) and use that to obtain updates? Thanks for previous posts!

You will need to call them & let them know what happened. More than likely,
the guy in India will provide you with a new key.

No sermons, but if they screwed up, they are responsible to fix it. I would
take them the computer, tell them to fix it properly at no charge, and let
them know that if they don't, they will shortly hear from your lawyer.
