Windows User Log on lock down!!??

When I start my windows XP and just before the log on screen comes out,
computer locks up and mouse, keyboard, any buttons won't work then it stays
there forever like that. If you have any suggestions please help me.
 
Boot to safe mode. If you can make it to safe mode I recommend uninstalling
some of your drivers. Perhaps network, then boot and see what happens.
