Windows upgrade

I want to upgrade from Windows XP HOme to XP Pro. I've
been reading, but am still unclear as to whether the
upgrade will delete any of my documents and financial info
that I use currently. Shouldn't but just want to be sure.

Any words of wisdom on this for peace of mind?

I read on this site, www.utexas.edu/computer/xp/ and clicking on migrating to win. xp pro, it said to backup your files before upgrading.
