window xp upgrade

I want to upgrade from Windows XP HOme to XP Pro. I've
been reading, but am still unclear as to whether the
upgrade will delete any of my documents and financial info
that I use currently. Shouldn't but just want to be sure.

Any words of wisdom on this for peace of mind?

The upgrade should leave all data files and settings in place. However, it
may be a good idea to backup all your valuable data files beforehand.

WinXP is designed to install and upgrade the existing operating
system while simultaneously preserving your applications and data, and
translating as many personalized settings as possible. The process is
designed to be, and normally is, quite painless. That said, things
can go wrong, in a small number of cases. If your data is at all
important to you, back it up before proceeding.

The upgrade from WinXP Home to WinXP Pro, in particular, should go
smoothly, as both operating systems use the same kernel.

If you use a *retail* Upgrade (or Full, but why pay more), and run the
CD from the existing system taking Install and continuing to Upgrade,
then the present installations and data will be retained. Though you
should *always* ensure you have a backup of essential data up to date
when doing such major tasks, just in case.

Do not get one of the 'OEM' disks sold with an item of hardware - these
will *not* upgrade, and have other significant restrictions too

By definition, an "upgrade" (as opposed to a clean installation)
means that all data, programs, etc. are kept intact.

However there are no guarantees that it always works perfectly.
However unlikely, it's always possible that something might go
wrong. For that reason it's prudent to be sure you have a backup
of anything you can't afford to lose before beginning.

But are you sure you want to do this? Are you aware that XP Home
and Professional are identical except that Professional includes
a few features (mostly related to security and networking)
missing from Home? Most home users don't need and would never use
these extra features and will see no benefits by upgrading.
