windows updates -- primarily patch or update for newest worm

Hi,

I just finished completely crashing and reinstalling xp
pro on my computer due to the latest worm virus. Dell
told me to make sure I update/patch for the worm virus
before I reinstall any programs, etc. but I cannot get
any updates to successfully do--they all fail. Help from
anyone will be most appreciated!!

I've seen this recommended several times
Go to Start, Run... and type:
regsvr32 wintrust.dll
