XP Home and Welchia worm - Does Automatic Windows Update Protect?

P

PapaBear

My daughter's laptop has XP Home with automatic windows updates enabled and
NAV 2003.
Yet it still got infected by the Welchia worm from the school LAN.
Even after worm removal, it immediately gets reinfected over the LAN.
Question: Does not windows update apply the July 16 patch against Blaster,
etc. worm vulnerability?
I have a W2K computer that I patched manually, but I thought that for Win
XP, windows update would take care of it automatically.
Thanks.

This depends on how you have Automatic Updates set to work. If it set to
download them, and then prompt you to install, someone has to tell it to
install. If its not set to download at all.............
