Windows updates don't "take"

Using Windows XP Pro. Windows update - last 8 patches
have been applied repeatedly but there seems to be no
recording of it. Next scan, same patches need to be
applied again. Also seems to affect other software with
automatic update features

My machine did the same thing, it wanted to install the
same patch over and over again. But when I checked the
Control Panel (Add programs), the patch was installed.
Still it keeps asking me to install the same patch. I don't
know why this is happening, I just wanted to say that
you're not the only one with this problem.

Prevent Windows Update from prompting you to install a Hotfix you know is
already installed:
