Windows Update XP Problem

I'm having an issue when I go to the Windows Update web
site. I'm always able to search for updates and pick
them fine. The problem comes when I agree to the license
agreement and the download comes up. Immediately it
hangs, staying at the plain screen with something
like "Please wait. Preparing to download" listed, but
the progress bar never goes anywhere. I've reset my web
settings, checked that Cryptographic services is running,
and checked my Hosts file (none of these probably have
anything to do with the problem, but it's all I knew to
try).

Any help is very much appreciated.

Hi,

This is the short version of steps to troubleshoot access problems:

Disable any/all of the following installed on your system:

- firewall (even the native one)
- antivirus software
- popup stopper
- download manager

Go to the Control Panel/Internet Options, click on "languages" and make sure
at least your default language is installed.

Check the Date & Time applet and make sure that the day/month, and
especially year are correct, if you are out of date by 90 days or more you
will not see any updates.

Add these sites to the list of trusted sites under Internet Options/security
in the Control Panel:

https://Windowsupdate.microsoft.com
https://V4.Windowsupdate.microsoft.com
https://Download.Windowsupdate.com
https://a248.e.akamai.net

Then retry Windows Update. If this doesn't help, try more troubleshooters
