Windows Update Service is unavailable

Greetings:

Recently, I went to Automatic Updates under System Properties, and discoverd
that the service is unavailable and grayed-out.

1) Is there some MS update that disabled this feature?
2) How do I make this feature available again?

Thanks for your reply, but I did not see anything on that page regarding the
automatic update option being grayed out. Any other ideas out there.

Anyone, anyone?
