windows update locked files in media player

hi there,
when i try to play music files in WMP, it says i have no
sound device, etc.
my brother installed updates from the microsoft website.
when in the installation history,there is an update box
with this message in it: "flaws in windows media player
may allow media library access" (819639).
i can't find a way thru this please help! i can play
audio cd's thru other programs, so i know it's not my
cd/rom. i'm graetful for any advice. thank you, K
