Windows Update fails during update search ...

Windows update fails during the update phase, after the "Express" or
"Custom" with the splash bar moving across the bar.
Sometimes, the Internet explore window simply goes away and sometimes the
report to Microsoft screen appears.
I have performed the proxy reset, inf/ie.inf /install, iexplore /rereg, and
regsvr32 wuapi.dll processes.
What next?

How to view the Update log in Windows
Open Internet Explorer and either type or copy and then paste this into the Address
bar:
%windir%\windowsupdate.log


Look for any error messages and then post the error message (and if necessary the
part where the updates files fail) of your log on the WU NG
