Windows Vista Windows Update error + more

• Operating System: e.g. Windows Vista (x32)
  
• Anti Virus Software : e.g. Pc Tools Anti Virus
  
• Anti Spyware Software : e.g. Microsoft Defender
• How do you connect to the net : e.g. Cable 6 megs
  
• Your Computer Specifications -
• Amd Athlon 64 x2 4600+ 2.4 Ghz
• 2 Gigs of ram.
• 2x 8800 GTS sli

Problem:
Windows update has error code Code 800B0109
Knowlege base methods fail as in unable to rename edb.log and or unable to find the program that is using it.
Windows Defener Will not start up with error code 0x800106ba
Unable to Reinstall Defender
Microsoft Silverlight will not install.
Defender does not exist in the programfiles
System Restore does not go back before the problem arised
Unable to install or work anti virus programs or programs that specifically maintains or uses the system.
My Conclusion:
Possible HD Corruption in the registry/ .dll files.
Im not doing the knowege base methods correctly because of microsoft's lack of detail.


Im thinking of just doing a clean slate reinstall of the OS, But that would mean backing up 66. gigs worth of important documents/ work, and several days of installing programs. I do not have the money and time to get these things backed up on time before my deadlines for projects arrive.
I need help quick.

Both of those solutions do not work. I regret to do a complete reinstall however.
