Windows update downloads same service pack.

Hello,

Windows Update and the Automatic Windows Update both keep showing up
that I need to install the fix for windows media player (KB828026). I have
uninstall data for it and have tried uninstalling and reinstalling it.
However it continues to want to keep reinstalling the patch and has
installed the patch quite a few times. I have seen one other post about
this problem back in May but I did not see a solution to make it stop this
stupid behavior. Can someone please tell me a solution to this problem if
possible or what is the probably cause?

This happens to me quite a bit. As long as the patch installed correctly, you may as well do the following, because chances are the update will keep appearing as 'not' being installed (it's just a minor bug in the update loader):

In the Windows Update Site, navigate to "view installation history". If the said update is listed as "successfully installed", go to "personalize windows update" and remove the update from the list by un-ticking the box. (You can also verify that the patch is installed by viewing 'add/remove programs' in control panel). Out of sight, out of mind. =]

Your instructions worked perfectly and windows update now realizes that
it does not need to update that program anymore. Thank you for your help.
