Windows Update does not work

After going through the process of picking my updates and then accepting the
terms etc I get to the screen telling me that the download proces has
started but nothing actually downloads.

If I go to the Windows catalogue and try from there the same thing happens.

I am missing loads of updates and am concerned about XP security on my PC

I'm on broadband, so I know that the connection is not the issue

nothing has happened .............the only thing i haven't done is go in to the registry
.....I'm not that game What could be wrong ??? ERROR MESSAGE:0x800A138F thats what i get
each time i go for updates
