Order of installation

Hello

I am updating my computer and as it concerns a new motherboard and
processor, I guess I will have to reinstall everything.

I would like to know the best order for such a process.

At the moment, I intend to do it in the following order.

1 Install XP Pro with SP1and partition the HD at the same time.
2 Install SP2 updates
3 Install Windows XP Pro updates taken from Windows
Catalogue and already downloaded on another HD
4 Install Drivers for Peripherics (Broadband Modem, printer
scanner, webcam etc)
5 Install Networks (Hamashi software) and Virtual Machine (VM
Player with Browser Virtual Machine)
6 Install Windows Office
7 Install other software
8 Install Firewall, anti virus and anti spyware

Thanks for any tips about going about a major reinstall.

I just did this, here was my order:

1. WinXP SP1 from CD
2. Every drive except sound and video
3. Grabbed the latest DirectX from windowsupdate
4. Sound and Video
5. Using windowsupdate, grab everything important, i.e. SP2, critical
service packs
6. #5 will become really freaking annoying
7. Utility programs that I always use, i.e. WinZip, etc.
8. Older big package software
9. The newer stuff
10. Misc. crap, like Activesync for my PDA.

I did do major utilities like NAV at the very end. Also, I used Norton Ghost
to backup the system between steps, so if something ugly happened I did not
have to start from scratch again.

Hope that helps,

John

You might want to do a clean up/chkdsk/defrag after number 3 and after
you're done.

Move #8 to before #4 as you want firewall and AV to be active before
connecting to a network.

Just a matter of preference, but I usually install needed drivers before
updating.

Make sure you don't connect to the internet before completing step 8.
