windows task manager problem

Hi All,

Here's the problem. My task manager loads but dos'nt appear on the screen!!
Ican see it on the task bar but nowhere else! Tried to maximize but no go.
Does the same thing with my windows media player. No other programs seem to
be affected. Any clues short of reinstalling XP?? Cant use system restore as
those wont work so cleared those today as well. Appreciate any and all help!!
