Task Manager (alt+ctrl+dlt) not responding...please help me

I need help with this problem. I have tried searching for solutions with no
answer.

Sometimes when applications are not responsive, you'd end task them using
task manager. However, When I press ALT+CTRL+DTL, the windows security
windows appears, but when I click on the task manager button it does not
open. Task manager wont open whenever any other application is not
responding.

When task manager doesnt open, I cant end task any of the applications or
click on anything else. The mouse is the only thing that works. I then end
up restarting the pc.

Help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, Not sure why this is happening, but another way you can access the
Task Manager is in the RUN menu type: TASKMGR.EXE. You may want to use
MSCONFIG to troubleshoot why your computer hangs up. You can type MSCONFIG
also in the RUN menu and disable ALL Startpup programs.

KJG, Thanks for reply.

My msconfig is set on selective startup cus I prefer not having a few
program run on startup.

Do you think this problem has anything to do with my registry? I used to
run this program called Tuneup utilities which corrects physical errors in
registry and also defrags it. I think that might have caused this problem.

What do you think?

To start the Task Manager...

Ctrl + Alt + Delete
or
Ctrl + Shift + Esc
or
Right click the Taskbar | Task Manager
or
Start | Run | Type: taskmgr | Click OK

Ctrl + Alt + Delete opens the Windows Security window if the Welcome screen
is turned off.

Turn on the Welcome screen...
1. In Control Panel, click User Accounts.
2. Click Change the way users log on or off.
3. Click to select the Use the welcome screen for fast and easy logon check
box.
4. Click OK.

When you open Task Manager, it flashes for a second and quits.

This symptom can be caused by viruses.

Task Manager, MSCONFIG, or REGEDIT disappear while opening
