windows start up

I recently installed windows xp. I previously was using windows 2000. When I
start up my computer now it goes to a blue screen which tells me that there
is an error and it has shut down windows to prevent damage to my computer. I
have no idea what the matter is. I need help bad. Has anyone ever encountered
this before. If you have please let me know. Thanks for any help you can give
me.

Hi Alfred,

What is the exact text of the blue screen error?
Have you tried booting to Safe mode or the Last Known Good Configuration?
Did you recently install any software? Driver updates? New hardware?
