Windows tries to load. it then leaves me with a blue screen that tells me "a
problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to
your computer..." i've would try it's recommendations on what to do, but
windows never is able load and so i cannot check the drives, etc. i've even
tried booting in safe-mode, that doesn't work either. i get the same message.
however, the message does end in, "technical information: *** stop:
0x00000024 (0x00190203, 0x865DF268, 0xC0000102, 0x00000000). What can i do?
Please help me!!!

Hello Avalen I was searching for similar problems to what I'm experiencing
and came across yours. Perhaps if I can help you, someone can help me back?

In the Microsoft.public.windowsxp.general thread "***STOP: 0x00000024
(0x00190203, 0x81bdac28, 0xc0000102, 0x0000000" on July 22 2006, this advice
was posted. Since their STOP error is similar I hope it can work for you.

On your working computer download Bart's PE Builder from
http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/ and run it to create a bootable CD.

Boot your problem computer with this CD, open a Command Prompt window,
and enter the following command:

CHKDSK C: /R

and see if that fixes the problem.

For more information abot your error see

OK now for my problem: upon bootup there is a black screen that says "We
apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. ..."
I have tried all of the Safe Mode options but that still has identical
results-- the startup routine, including some stuff about partition code,
then a Blue Screen that says the following, "A problem has been detected and
Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer..."

The exact error seems to be: STOP: 0x00000024 (0x001901FD, 0x81F410E8,
0xC0000102. 0x00000000). I read here that it is indeed an NTFS.sys problem
but I don't see any mention of it in the Blue Screen.

A bit of background info: I'm a home-care nurse and the computer is the
client's. I understand they bought it used from someone (bad idea huh), I
used it just once and aside from repeatedly trying to install WinXP in a
time-consuming process, it worked okay. They may still have the installation
CDs (which don't appear to be original copies). That was several months ago.
I'd like to get the machine working again for them but I'm prepared to
recommend they take it to CompUSA or somewhere for service, or ask a tech to
make a housecall.

hello... 1_of_B0rg...

i was able to fix the problem. yes, it is a NTFS.sys file error. what has
happened is that your hard drive has a few corrupted clusters. if you do have
the installation disk, insert it into your cd-rom and restart your computer,
which should boot from the cd. after windows installs it's basic system
files, it will prompt you on how you want to proceed. strike "r" for repair.
it will take you to another black screen with a command prompt. type in
chkdsk. this should guide you through the check disk process. on my system,
it found and repaired 4 clusters. after that, exit the command page by typing
"exit", i think. if you have a problem with any commands, type "help" and it
will show you a long list of available commands. after you exit, your system
should either reboot or prompt you to reboot. remove the installation cd
before your system reboots and all should load just fine... yeah, it's a pain
in the ass, but it completely fixed my problem. the hexidecimal code
0x00000024 is actually a 0x24 error code which the system recognizes (but
doesn't tell you) as a NTSF.sys error. the rest of the hexidecimal codes in
the "()" basically refer to specific kinds of errors within an NTFS error.
so, you can forget about those for future reference. enjoy!
