Windows Start Up Slow

My problem is slightly different than most that I've read about here.

I have a 4 year old Gateway 500s with XP Home.

40 gigs left on an 80 gig Harddrive.

When I start the computer the Gateway logo comes on the screen and stays
there for 15 minutes. I haven't timed it but I think it might be exactly 15
minutes every time. Then and only then does Windows start up. Seems to work
fine otherwise.

I don't have many programs running, no games, no porno & no sites that risky
as far as I know.

I did remove Ulitmate Bet and all the useless stuff from the desk top
recently.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

Start > Run and type in

msconfig

Go to "Startup" tab and uncheck everything (please note that this will disable your antivirus and your firewall if you use a third-party one). Restart normally? Does it go faster?

Jose: Thanks for the quick response!
I just upgraded to Norton 2006 and I do want to keep it.
If I do the misconfigure thing how will I get Norton back?
I'd like to make sure of all outcomes before I try this fix.

Yes, by unchecking the box you only prevent it launches at start. Buy if Norton provides you the firewall, disconnect you machine for the Internet, because your firewall will be disabled. If your firewall is XP one, you do not need to disconnect.

Norton's Anti Virus 2006 was a major problem with me as well, in startup and
shutdown due to the CCapp.exe I have 6 mths left with my license with them.
I couldn't stand it anymore how slow it was making my pc. I uninstalled
norton's and now using a better anti virus on tryout. Found it within
microsoft geniure software page and have a tryout for 90 days, it sure isn't
Norton's!

If you allow me to advise you, you may want to try these antivirus (be carefull and use always *only* one resident antivirus software!):

Free: Avast! and AVG
No free: NOD32, Kaspersky.
