Windows Start Up Problem

When my machine boots up, it has suddenly started to open a Window. The
window is c:program files\common\. Within the folder it simply shows one sub
folder called "Bin". If I open this Bin folder there are 4 files which I
think relate to my WinDVD programme (intervideo). The files are ivivideo.ax,
iviaudio, etc. Does any one know why this has suddenly started happening and
how I can stop it ? It doesn't seem to have any effect on my PC and the
WinDVD still works fine - it's just damn annoying having to close this window
every time I boot up.
Thanks in advance for any help !

I'd restore to a date prior to this window appearing. First though I would
open run and enter msconfig, then go to start up. Make list of which entries
are checked, and then check again after restoring to look for changes. No
idea if that's correct procedure - but it fixed a similar problem for me.

Hi Jonathan,

The command to open this folder is most likely being
executed in one of the following registry keys.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Go to Start - Run, type Regedit and press enter.
Navigate to the keys above and take a look at the data
values in the right pane for c:program files\common\ or
something like it. If found click on the data name in the
same pane to highlight it. In the file menu select Export.
Export the reg file to the desktop for now. Now with the
data name highlighted click delete.

Reboot the system.

Hi Bert,
I have exactly the same problem as Jonathan. I did as you suggested... there
weren't any data values in the registry editor containing c:program
files\common\ but there were some with c:program files\common files\. I tried
exporting and deleting those followed by reboot. All to no avail...
unfortunately.
Do you have any other suggestions?
Many thanks

Hi,

Take a look at the startup programs in msinfo for a similar command.
Go to Start - Run and type msinfo32 and press enter.
Expand Software Environment and click on Startup Programs.

If you don't see anything there, go to following link and download
"Startup program tracker" and run it. See if anything shows up there.
