I am running Windows XP Home Edition and would like to know if it is possible
to change the back ground image that is shown on the sign-in menu at startup.

I think I have seen something similar done on a computer running windows XP
professional, but can't confirm it as I am not sure who's laptop it was.

Thank-you for your time,

Daniel

If using the Classic Logon Screen,

start>run and type

regedit

HKEY_USERS\.Default\Control Panel\Desktop

In the right-hand pane double click "WallPaper" and assign the new wallpaper
value. The value would look something like this
"C:\WINDOWS\Web\Wallpaper\Windows XP.jpg" without the quotes.

If using the Welcome Screen, you can use a 3rd party application. It is
Free.

Dear WTC,

Thank you for your advice. I would like to ask you another question if
that's not too much of a problem.

I have navigated to the location that you said, using the regedit and was not
sure how or what to type into the value data field. I know the images that I
want to use but not sure how to enter the data. Is it just the file location?
eg.

C:\documents and settings\Daniel\My Documents\My Pictures\weemee

Thank-you for your help,

daniel

use the file location plus the file extension of the picture like as bmp or
jpg.

C:\documents and settings\Daniel\My Documents\My Pictures\weemee.jpg

I have followed all your steps and they have done something, (not sure what).
I am not able to view the image that I wanted still. I can when I log out,
can see the desktop image of the last person using the computer.

WHY IS NOTHING IN LIFE SIMPLE? lol.

Well sorry that your advice didn't work, if there is anything else that you
could suggest, i am willing to try anything.

Thank-you for all your time and effort,

Daniel

Here is a site to confirm what I told you.

Thank you very much. The link that you gave me had a program that I could
download which would change both the welcome screen and the basic log in
screen background. Thank-you very much.
