Does anyone know hoe to put background images in folders. On my old 98
windows operating system I was able to set a picture (jpg, bmp etc.) as my
folder background.

I am also able to do this on my windows 2000 professional edition network at
work. I have tried doing the same in Microsoft XP HOME EDITION, but have been
unsuccessful.

Thank-you for your help

Daniel

Create a folder with the background you want. Find the (probably) hidden file desktop.ini. Copy that file and most likely a hidden folder called Folder Settings (which is probably where the picture is) to an XP folder.

The XP folder needs to be set read only. If you customise an Icon for the folder this will write a desktop.ini (with icon info) and set the read only attribute. When you copy your 98 desktop.ini over it will replace XP's giving background customisation instead if icon customisation. Or you can copy the lines from one file to another.

Background and icon settings work on 98/2000/XP even though there is only a UI for one or the other.

You may need to close all folder windows and go Start - Control Panel - Folder Options - View - Reset All Folders.
