How can I remove 'user installed' desktop backgrounds?

A friend recently asked me to change the standard Windows XP desktop
wallpaper on her laptop.
I clicked through Control Panel\Display\Desktop tab to choose another
Background.

Low and behold, while scrolling the Background list I noticed that some
enterprising gitt has managed to add high resolution copies of their scanned
credit card (back and front) to the Backgrounds list.

I have found the original scanned .jpg's in the default user My Documents\My
Pictures folder.
The Wallpaper system folder contains only the XP images.

Would some helpful soul direct me to where I might find the 'user installed'
background images files for removal.

Windows gets image files from these locations:

BMP Files from C:\WINDOWS

BMP, JPG, GIF, JPE, DIB, PNG, HTM files from the following locations:

C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper
C:\Documents and Settings\<USER NAME>\My Documents\My Pictures [& ALL
THE SUB-FOLDERS]
C:\Documents and Settings\<USER NAME>\Application
Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer
C:\Program Files\Plus!\Themes [*** & ALL THE SUB-FOLDERS ***]

If that doesn't do the job for you, search for *.jpg.

You can simply click the Browse button in the Desktop dialog and navigate to any folder to select an image to display on the desktop. Once an image is selected, that images file name is added to the list in the Backgrounds, but the image file will remain in the folder where it was selected. If you then select another image for the background, this image name should be removed from the backgrounds list. Only the image files in the default Wallpaper folder should be permanently retained in that list.

Not completely true. I downloaded an image (Blue Moth) for my
background, and placed it in My Pictures. When I switch from that image
to another, Blue Moth remained in the list.
