windows server naming

I have a server that is setup with the server
name: server and the domain name: server.com
The pre-2000 name is: server0
I have a windows 2000 pro client that won't join
the domain unless I have it look for server0.
It joins, but takes forever to log in. Any
suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The general MS reply would be to verify the IP config on
the workstation, and verify that your DNS is setup and
functioning properly.
