Windows says due to hardware changes XP needs to be activated - but No hardware changes for 4 mo's

Happens every time my computer starts up with the internet connection
disabled.

My antivirus program interferes seriously with computer operation so if I'm
doing anything
other than simple stuff like, word or email, I turn off my antivirus
software AFTER
Disabling the internet connection.

Every damn antivirus program I've ever used caused problems with some
software, it was just
a matter of time before some problem reared it's ugly head!

Of course I sometimes forget to enable thwe internet connection before
shutting down and that's when I
get the activation required message.

This has happened so many times that I get the added message whenever I try
to
activate windows:

"According to our records, the number of times you can activate windows
with this product key
has been exceeded"

Then I have to call microsoft and wait a long time for a technician to give
me a new key.
This is nuts!!!

How do I fix this?

Get a better Anti Virus so you do not need to Disable your internet
connection.
Maybe if you tell us what piece of shite your using we can recommend a
better product??

I just knew someone would give your reply which is why I tried to make it
VERY CLEAR:

"Every damn antivirus program I've ever used caused problems with some
software, it was just a matter of time before some problem reared it's ugly
head!"

Can someone else please reply!
Not some other schill from an anti-virus software company!

My guess is that your O/S (I'm guessing Windows) has been destabilized,
and this is causing problems when AntiVirus (and perhaps other) programs
have been installed: your AntiVirus programs are not creating a problem;
rather, they are misbehaving because of your underlying problem. What
you should be doing is finding out what is destabilizing your O/S, and
fixing THAT.

(BTW, why disable the Internet connection when you have problems? Just
disconnect the cable. This should prevent activation error messages.)

Used to do that cable disconnect thing - connector gets ruined very quickly
on the cable and the device you're plugged into!

Dave,

I have no idea about your activation problem.

But I've only used two anti-virus programs. One of them noticeably slowed down
my computer for many programs so was removed.

The one I'm using now has not affected the running of any of my programs.

I have occasionally had problems with program installation. I don't know
whether this was due to my anti-virus program, Windows firewall, Windows
Defender, or some other issue. However, what I do now is to install important
programs, or those with which I have had a problem, after doing a "clean boot"
per MSKB article at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353/en-us

Although I have had other "conflict" problems with software, nothing other than
an installation issue (as mentioned above) has ever been caused by my current
anti-virus program.

Why do you, and how do you shut down your internet? What is the purpose?
What type DSL, dial, cable do you have?

I'm glad you haven't had any problems. That has not been my experience with
ANY ANTIVIRUS PROGRAM I have ever used. I'm inclined to think most users
aren't aware of a lot of the problems their antivirus programs are causing
them.
