Windows XP keeps having to be activated?

After reformatting my hard drive, I recieved the following message: This copy
of Windows has exceeded the limit which it can be activated. So I call the
number on the screen that says call to activate. Well, I have called 4 times
in the past week, because every time I start up Windows, I recieve this
message: This copy of Windows must be activated before you can log on.

What the heck is going on here? Is there any way I can tell if my copy of XP
is truly valid? (It has passed the Windows Validation tool before) And if it
is valid, how can I solve this problem.

Have you talked to a human being about this?

Yes, when I activated the product all 4 times I was speaking with a Microsoft
representative. But on the 4th call, I was dealt with rudely, I asked what I
should do with the situation, and the representative just said "Is the
product activation done?" I answered yes, and she said "thank you have a good
day".
