Windows Root Problems

i have recently bought a new hard disk for my hard drive
and i have inserted my xp disk to set things up and i
keep getting a messasge saying windows could not start
because the following files are missing or corrupt

windows root system 32 hal dll

please reinstall a copy of the above file

can anyone please help

Is the new HDD Formatted? Does your Motherboard support this size HDD (many
older ones may not support 160-250GB HDDs)?

Did you have WinXP running on the old HDD? [This will help us determine that
your system will indeed support WinXP.]

Are you booting from the CD?

Tell us "WHEN" this occurs and that will give us some needed info to help
you.

Please respond with a reply to this same message (please do not post a new
