Windows restart

This is probably fairly elemental for some of you but not for me. After a
storm the other night, our dell computer won't restart. When we turn it on,
it says, "...last attempt to restart....failed. Attempt to restart." Then my
choices are "Delete restoration data and proceed..." and "continue with
system restart"

When I did a search on my laptop for that issue, I found a Microsoft support
page that states that this is likely a problem with the hibernation program
and is usually accompanied by no response from mouse or keyboard, which is
exactly what we have. Then it says to select "delete restoration data and
proceed..."

That seems like a logical thing to do, but for the fact that I have no
response from my mouse or keyboard, as stated earlier.

What do I do?

Hi

What kind of XP CD have you got - a recovery or retail version? You may
have to contact Dell for their help.

Hi,

If you are using a USB keyboard, either check that ability for the keyboard
at POST is enabled in the system BIOS (it may have reset to defaults) or try
a PS2 keyboard.
