How do I solve this hibernate problem?

I get this message when I turn on my Sony Vaio, running XP Home:

"The last attempt to restart the system from its previous location
failed. Attempt to restart again:

Delete restoration data and proceed to system boot menu
Continue with system restart"

A bulletin in Microsoft support says to just select the first option.
But the drivers for my keyboard and mouse seem not to have loaded
before this message appears, so I can't select anything or even move
the highlight bar. I'd greatly appreciate any help.

Using a USB keyboard & mouse? Borrow or buy a PS/2 mouse and plug it into the keyboard/mouse
port on the laptop. The BIOS will activate it automatically. As little as $3

Thank you for responding. Unfortunately, my laptop doesn't seem to
have a keyboard/mouse port.
