Windows.old

Can I delete windows.old? What's in it that I would need?
I installed Vista on a laptop that had, first WinXP Pro
then WinXP pro x64. I have program files
and program files x64. None of which work.
Can I delete those folders?

I'd like to clean up the drive and re-install programs

Is there any documentation about Vista RC1 5600.
Where can I d/L this?

I like Vista, it seems stable to me and has features I will use, like
media center.

Yes you can safely delete the "Windows.old" folder. Vista doesn't use
it, and it's only there in the event that you forgot to backup
something you needed from those files. You need to re-install all of
your programs from scratch.

While it's fairly stable overall, it's still got a LOT of bugs, GUI
problems, and compatibility issues that need to be resolved. It's
nowhere near ready for prime-time and I'd guess RTM will be delayed
again. I also wouldn't recommend you use it as a main OS unless you do
regular backups of your important data. It's still beta software.

RTM will not be delayed. Target release is October for Enterprise / Software
Assurance customers and then general availability in January of 2007.

That's what I keep hearing, but Vista isn't be readly.

Ugh...so I guess that means the unfortunate retail users will be part
of the "RC2" testing phase until they release more updates.

That actually wouldn't surprise me. I still see the occasional XP OEM install
that is flagged as "Windows Whistler"

Though Bill Gates did say in one of his speeches that Vista would not be
released until it was ready, and they had no problem delaying it until it is
ready to go...so who knows

Well from what I've seen, it's definitely not ready.

Perhaps with all the CPP testing, and hopefully a lot of feedback,
they can fix the problems quickly and get it ready...would be nice...

Not sure what you mean by "Vista isn't be readly", but RC1 was not intended
as a bug free build for RTM release. It's feature complete but it's still
being worked on for bugs. A new build was just released today to TechBeta
and there will be other builds after that before RTM. Will it be bug free
at RTM? - absolutely not. There are known bugs that won't be fixed until
after RTM. They are focusing on the major problems and the "show stoppers".
