Windows Messenger keeps signing out

Have Win Msgr 4.7 installed and has worked fine for years but
beginnig sometime this summer it began signing itself out and
sometimes signing in at irregular intervals. Then for a few
weeks it stopped doing that, but is now back at it with a
vengence. Will not stay signed in for more than 5 mins. I
read that other have same problem with version 5.1. I assume
this is a MS server problem, because I have changed nothing
on my machine and firewall makes no difference. I am
susrpised that I don't see more on this. Putting this here
because my news server doesn't carry ng devoted to
Win Msg (yet). Any info or ideas?

i set status appear offline. i am trying to find answer online but

Have found nothing new. An IT mgr for a lge corp put the same complaint
in the windows msgr ng a week or two ago but he has not rec'd a reply
either and that group is I think monitored by the MS Msgr support. Have
to access that via Google Groups for the moment. The problem seems to
be connected to actual PC use, because I have never seen it sign-out
while I was actively typing or using browser, etc. It doesn't matter
what you have the status set at or the delay you set. If you set it to
never show you signed out or change it to an really long time (like 999
mins) it will never show the status change, BUT when you go to send a
msg you will find that it has still signed itself out and you will have
to sign back in to send it.
