Windows Media Player Problem

Ok here we go. I have a problem with my windows media
player. If I try to double click a windows media player
file it just gives me a system beep. It then makes it so
that I cannont left click on my desktop or icons. I also
cannont right click on my icons. I can still get to my
start menu when I do this. If I try to start windows
media player the same thing happens. Also if a select a
file and try to open with windows media player all the
same happens. If I do not use windows media player in
anyway I can still use my desktop. I have to restart my
computer after I try using windows media player if I want
control of my desktop again. I tried going to run the
mplayer2 and open the files and it works. So therefore I
know it is a problem with windows media player.
