Hi Kelly - thanks for your (the only) response to my query - however - do ye
not think I'd have exhausted the MS Knowledge Bases before asking in here?
Reading around it seems that Windows Media Player 10 is not all it's cracked
up to be, for all it's functionality, many people report the same problem as
me, ie. it does not recognize most people's CD burner drive - although the
excellent non MS Nero does and works without a single hitch.

Had the very same problem. Exhausted every possibility, including not yet
pub. patch from computer vendor. Still nothing. Thinking it was my drive, I
went out and bought a new one. Still nothing, though I now have a much
better drive that came with Nero (Which I still can't figure out yet, but
will). Then I deleted all cd burning software off computer (Easy CD, etc.).
Media Player now recognizes my cd drive. I reinstalled Nero only and
everything is still working fine. Hope this helps you
