I recently tried upgrading Windows ME to Windows XP Home
Edition, but ran into the problem described in the
following knowledge base entry (822796):
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;822796&Product=winxp
Summary:
When you install Windows XP, you may receive the following
error message:
Setup was unable to verify drive C:.
Your computer may not have enough memory to examine the
drive, or your Windows XP CD may contain some corrupted files.
To continue, press Enter.
When you click Enter, you may receive the following error
message:
Setup cannot access the CD containing the Windows XP
installation files.
I'm pretty sure it was my bios because:
1) the upgrade process failed to install biosinfo.inf
(that's what windows 'XP?' complains about when trying to
boot from HDD).
2) the manufacturer states on their website that a bios
update must be done on the computer before it will work
correctly with windows XP.
I've updated the bios, but I'm still getting stuck with the
above errors when trying to continue the upgrade process.
Is there any way to force the Windows XP upgrade CD back
into upgrade mode w/o it trying to resume the previous upgrade?
