Windows XP setup for SP2

I have tried to upgrade Windows XP to SP2 but after rebooting get a message
that the file a5brzkk9.sys is missing. At this stage I cannot continue and
Windows XP will not boot. Every time a reboot is done it commences the
Windows XP setup which fails with the same file. Even though it prompts to
press any key to continue or to boot into normal Windows XP and not setup
mode these do not work. I can go into the BIOS setup at boot time to try to
boot from a CD but this also fails.

Does anyone have any comments on this missing file and how to load this when
I cannot boot my PC?

Jake,

Thanks for the quick response. I have tried this but will try again. Once
the Windows reboot has started and gone past the BIOS setup it does not seem
to accept any keystrokes. I will try again.

A file with such a name is more likely to be trojan/malaware related
If you get your system back you should run malaware / virus scans from
several vendors before you try to update again
Adaware, Spybot, MS Defender, all free for malaware
trend.micro, also symantec.com have online av scans

I'd bet a dollar to a dozen donuts, you installed SP2 on top
of an XP riddled with viruses. A very bad no-no.

Now you can spend hundreds of useless hours trying to
remove the virus (which SP2 has now locked in) or you
can start from scratch - reformat your drive and re-install
XP and all your programs.

I'd install it on a new HD then mount the original drive to
get it's important data (after a virus scan).
