My laptop is with vista home basic O/S. Norton Antivirus for lenovo version
14.2.0.29 is loaded. I cannot receive emails on windows mail.
sending message is fast and proper.
The initial indication of receiving 1 of X mails is also indicated.
Error:blush:x800ccc19 is indicated after hanging for quiet some time.
I tried disabling Norton e mail scanning for incoming mail, Windows defender
realtime protection and firewall were all disabled one by one without any
success.
please advise

I uninstalled Norton antivirus, symantec live update etc and tried receiving
the mail, my first mail of 8KB size was downloaded(this was downloaded once
before when the Norton was installed). however the 2nd mail with 80KB was
hanging just as before.
warning message "your POP3 server has not responded in 60secs. would you
like to wait another 60secs. For this I responded with Stop.
This gave further Error Message: Account: 'smma.dataone.in', Server:
'smma.dataone.in', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number:
0x800CCC19

Any new suggestions please!!!!!

You did well to uninstall Norton AV. The remaining problem could
be due to a corrupted message on the server. Connect to the
server via webmail and delete that 80KB message. This may allow
the rest of your emails to be downloaded. If you continue to have
problems with downloading, it is possible that the account was
corrupted by NAV. Delete the account, restart Windows Mail, then
recreate the account.

there is something really wrong with the windows mail. i deleted the 80 KB
mail, outof the 11 mails in my inbox the next seven were below 10KB size and
all of them were downloaded, that also not as fast as on my PC with XP and
outlook express. Downloading all 11 mails took less than 90secs on my PC.
There is some hitch on the Windows mail. Can we go back to Outlook express on
Vista.

Glad you got one problem resolved.
I don't know why Windows Mail is slow for you, since it is not
slow for me. No, Outlook Express cannot be installed on Vista.

Dear Gary VanderMolen,
Thanks, the problem persists. Any mail with size of around 100kb just
hangs. This in effect stops all mail downloads.
Can i install Mozilla thunderbird in Vista to get over this big nuisance.

Yes, Mozilla Thunderbird works on Vista, but it is difficult to import
anything from Windows Mail to Thunderbird.
You may want to try Windows Live Mail first:

Run this utility:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

Then make sure email scanning is turned off in your anti-virus program.
