Windows Mail Won't Load

I have read what has been written in this forum but nothing has fixed the
problem. My problem has been discussed before.

1) Windows Mail could not be started. The application was unable to open the
Windows Mail message store. Your windows Mail mailbox data is currently being
used by another program, such as a virus scanner. Clos the program or wait
for it to complete its operation, then open Windows Mail again. (0x800C0155)

2)Windows Mail could not be started because MSOE.DLL could not be initialized.
===============

I use AVG, but turning it off doesn't help. I have no real time antimalware
running. I have scanned for malware (only a few cookies), and no viruses. I
have rebooted many times.

I did a system restore (only 1 restore point was offered to a few hours ago.
Only 1?)

Restore did not fix the problem.

I ran wmutil. It found that the databse was corrupted, and then it fixed
it. Subsequent running of wmutil, finds no problem.

Can I rinstall Windows Mail in Vista? Or what can I do?

Regards

Have you considered blowing away the message stores then restart WinMail and
let it build a new one?

The e-mail will not be lost, they are stored as .eml files in message store
folder.

Get the location of the message store (Tools | Options | Advance tab |
Maintenance button | Store Folders button.
Close WinMail.

MOVE the folder to anothe rlocation then restart WinMail

You can get the .eml files from the old folder and drag and drop them into a
user created folder (not the Inbox) for access to them again.

Hi Doug,

You mentioned that it repaired the database, but did not say if you
tested running Windows Mail again and what was the outcome.

****Still the exact same error messages. The prog doesn't load.
If you still have problems, you can first make sure that Window Mail
has all if it's default associations. Use step two:

If it is still not working, then do the "To Reset Windows Mail" section
here:

****Tried that. default associations all OK

*****I use Windows Mail only for Newsgroups. But I have now deleted
everything under Windows Mail. Restarted, but still the same problem. The
only file created under Windows Mail after I deleted the contenyts was a file
called edbtemp.log

It doesn't seem to be a corrupted database, after thiese efforts. Running
Windows Mail, doesn't recreate anything

****Yep, but nothing is recreated. It's no longer likely to be anything to
do with the message content.

The error meaage is till exactly the same. The last part of the error
message seems to hold the key, "Windows Mail could not be started because
MSOE.DLL could not be initialized"

Sort of solved.

Further searching referred to "permissions" being the problem
with RC1. So I ran it as administrator, and presto, it now works, albeit
only as administrator. (I am running Vista Home Premium)

Any ideas what this is all about?

Ok Doug,

If it has nothing to do with the messages since the Reset didn't do
anything, then let's try the system files. Try running the "sfc
/scannow" command from a elevated command prompt. This will check and
attempt to repair all system files. Here is a link for how to use it.

See my "fix" posted at 1150pm forum time. Run as administrator. Do you
know what this all means?

You're running RC1 still????????

The permissions on the message store directory were probably off and needed
to be reset.

How does this happen? I understand a lttle bit what has happened, but why?

If you are using beta1, then its fixed subsequently.

Causes of problems are often difficult to determine.
