Using windows mail for over a year on the same computer and now I can no
longer send e-mails. I can still receive.

This is the message I am getting.

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity.

Subject 'test'
Server: 'smtp.att.yahoo.com'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0F
Protocol: SMTP
Port: 465
Secure(SSL): Yes

Using One care antivirus
Have had 3 troubleshooting sessions with AT&T and they now tell me this is a
problem with my windows mail. I downloaded windows live mail to see If I
could use it instead and it is is doing the same thing . I did system
restored to date before I started having problems but that didn't work
either.

Scrubber

Hi Yahoodan,
Scrubber here, If you go into windows mail, select tools, select accounts a
new window will appear. Click onto default mail admin and select properties (
edit ) and check to see if your outgoing mail is same as your outgoing. If
all else fails try deleting your default mail and select create new mail
account and start from scratch. Hope this helps! ps... i got that message
when i had my ethernet cable loose in the back of my pc?

Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML
files from the scan. It provides no protection not provided by the regular
resident protection.
Besides that, McAfee,Trend and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail
and Outlook Express and should be uninstalled. The latest version of
Trend's anti-virus seems to be causing problems too.

That problem is caused by a recent update to OneCare.
To fix it, in Windows Mail:
Click on Tools, Options, Security, Digital IDs. Under the Personal tab
you will see a digital ID. Highlight it and click the Remove button.
Restart Windows Mail and try sending.

If it does it in both Windows Mail and Windows Live Mail then it is your AV scanning in and outgoing emails.
Instead of just disabling (scanning only)it you should uninstall your AV completely and then re-install it without the email integration(scanning). Some AV programs and their email scanning do not disable as needed. That is why uninstall and then re-install minus the scanning feature

Both Windows Mail and Windows Live Mail will have their digital IDs messed
up by Windows Live OneCare. Perhaps checking the digital ID is in order. See
Gary VanderMolen's post on the subject.
