Hi, I really wish I had never heard of and got Vista, my scanner and external
storage are not compatible and I can not use Hotmail and also my POP 3 does
not send from the Outbox when I use Windows Mail. I feel Vista is a total
shambles
give me XP anyday. If I close Windows Mail and then re-open it does go. If
anybody can help please post the solution.

Well a real tale of wow.

First you may need the drivers for the hardware. You do not mention the
makers but go to their web site and look for Vista drivers from your model.

Why can't you use Hotmail. That is an online service that any browser will
log into if you have the URL right and use you name and password correctly.
As to Mail. Go to Tools menu and Options and the Send tab. Put a tick in the
Send Immediately box then hit Apply. Your mail will go OK

Hi Ian,

Thanks for your response, unfortunately my HP 5470C scanner site says it
does dot support Vista even though it is an expensive scanner. The Philips
external hard drive which is only 6 month old (SPE3020CC) 250GB again states
Vista not supported when you go to the site.

My hotmail was SMTP and Windows Mail does not support this and my other mail
service is POP3 which is where I have the send problem. I did as you said and
the send immediate box was already checked. The only way I can send email is
to close the program, re-open and it goes.

Just for your information I installed Outlook XP and my Hotmail worked.

Some people on the net believe it is an anti virous software problem.

Best regards,

Paul

SMTP and POP3 are not valid email server names, only mail protocol names.
Windows Mail supports them as protocol names. What happens when you try
to use them as server names depends on what your internet provider does with
invalid names. I don't know the details, but Outlook XP (also known as
Outlook 2002) has a few problems under Vista. For your other email provider
(who is likely to be your internet provider also) you need to ask them for
their
instructions to set up to use their email servers. Many email providers
offer
only instructions for Outlook Express, but you should at least get the
correct
server names out of these. The instructions are probably somewhere on their
web site. Or, you could tell us who your email provider is and see if
anyone
here already knows where to find the instructions.

I'm having the same problem. When I send a test e-mail to myself, it shows
it was sent and the e-mail is in the sent folder but it doesn't show up in
the inbox. Help!

You posted to the wrong group.

But...

My HP 5470C scanner works great with Vista x86 -- first prepare the latest
downloaded HP XP drivers to install in XP Compatibility mode (right click on the
setup.exe file and on the Compatibility tab select XP SP2) then run the
setup.exe "elevated" (right click the setup.exe again and select Run as
Administrator).

Even though HP says the scanner is not "supported", mine works fine under Vista
(although it only support TWAIN and will not work with Ultimate's Windows Fax
and Scan application).

What error message do you get when you try to send?

If you have a undeletable message in the Outbox see
Messages may be stuck in the Outbox when you use Windows Mail on a computer
that is running Windows Vista
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941090
It also works on other folders.

You don't have the same problem.

Some mail providers (including Gmail) do not allow you to download
a message you sent to yourself. Go to the server via webmail to see
if the message is there.
