Windows Installer Problem

I recently uninstalled VMWare Workstation via the Add/Remove programs
route. I have also removed any references to VMWare from the registry
via separate searcheds.

Despite this , every time I startup XP the WIndows Installer tries to
install VMWare Workstaion (it fails if course as there is no software
to instal). However this in very annoying and it happens a lot during
my normal use of my PC, particularly when I may be using Internet
Explorer.

Can anyone suggest a cause and a solution?

I recently installed a program called CCleaner. It has a function that checks
the registry and will list paths that have no target or resolution. Also
checks a bunch of other possible problems, and lets you save before fixing..
just in case. Great for cleaning out History files, Temp files, Cookies, etc.
Oh ya, it's free!

The best place to get help with this would be on the user forums on the
VMWare website.

CCleaner is a good program if you restrict its use to its functions
other than registry cleaning. But you would be well advised *not* to
use it, or any other program, to clean your registry.

I strongly suggest you avoid using any registry cleaning program. They
are *all* snake oil. Cleaning of the registry isn't needed and is
dangerous. Leave the registry alone and don't use any registry
cleaner. Despite what many people think, and what vendors of registry
cleaning software try to convince you of, having unused registry
entries doesn't really hurt you.

The risk of a serious problem caused by a registry cleaner erroneously
removing an entry you need is far greater than any potential benefit
it may have.
