Windows Installer problem

Ok, this has wasted 3 days of my life already and I cannot
get it working. Working what? well, most of the softwares
that I got to install can't be installed because of
problems with the Windows Installer services.

Funny thing is that on the services console I can 'start'
it, 'stop' and 'restart' but still cannot run installation
of any software because of message saying that
my 'Windows Installer Services' is running on safe mode or
is not 'Windows INstaller' is not correctly installed.

I am running Windows Pro 2000, with SP4.

thanks,

Hi

Try the methods one by one outlined here to fix Windows Installer problems in
Win2k and NT4:

PRB: Incorrect Default DCOM Settings Cause Windows Installer to Stop Responding

After running through the four steps in the URL above, also try
this from Start/Run:

msiexec /regserver

If that doesn't solve your problem, and you have MSI 2.0 installed, downgrade
to version 1.1 (somewhat messy), and then install MSI 2.0 again:
