Recently uninstalled MacAfee because of error messages,
it wasn't working properly. Now trying to install Norton
software, keep getting error message: "error 1722 there
is a problem with this Windows Installer Package. A
program run as part of the setup did not finish as
accepted. I have called Compaq, they have been NO help at
all "after" paying them!!!!! Just recently purchased 2
new compaq's, sure hope I don't start having this problem
with the new ones. Would appreciate your assistance.

Thank you for your time and assistance.

If Mcafee wasn't working properly, it might have been because your
system is infected with one of the viruses that breaks antivirus
programs. Since you didn't give details of the Mcafee problem, that is
just a guess, but an educated one. That would also explain why Norton
isn't installing properly. This has nothing to do with Compaq. First,
you might want to do a System Restore to before you uninstalled Mcafee
and tried to install Norton. Then scan with a standalone av program
like Stinger, which you can get here:

http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/

Scan in Safe Mode. If your computer is infected, you can look up the
names of the viruses it found at www.sarc.com or Mcafee's site to learn
about repair procedures. If your computer is clean, then please post
back for more help. Be sure to include what you've already done to
troubleshoot. BTW, if this computer *is* infected and is on a lan, then
all the other computers are probably infected. If this is a business,
you may find it more productive to have a local computer repair person
come in and fix things for you.

Cheers,

Malke
