Error1722 - help!!

I installed Norton Security and then uninstalled it. I
tried to install it again but I keep getting an error
message 1722 which says:

"While installing Norton Internet Security (NIS) 2004, you
see the error message: Error 1722: "There is a problem
with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part
of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your
support personnel or package vendor."

It says somthing about the MSI file being corrupt. I have
tried everything suggested, to fix this problem but can't
seem to fix it. Any suggestions?

Sounds familiar - I just encountered this exact error
on a client's PC about a week ago. Go to Symantec's
website and do a search using "Msi Installer" as the
search keyword. There are at least 2 or 3 articles that
discuss how to resolve this issue.

Essentially, you are going to have to remove all of the
Symantec products on your PC, then run RNis.Exe &
try to clean up Registry keys that affect the installer.

Be sure to backup/image your system, as the steps
require manipulating the Registry and can easily render
the system unusable.

Symantec has got to get a handle on these upgrade &
install issues and quickly. As Dennis Miller says "That's
just my opinion, I could be wrong."

Thanks for both of your suggestions. What do you mean try
a systems restore point?

And I did do that search with MSI Installer and followed
their steps but it didn't work. It also says to reinstall
MSI Installer except if you have WindowsXp, which is what
I have. So not sure how I'm supposed to reinstall MSI!

Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore. Choose
"restore my computer to an earlier time" and follow the wizard. Restore
to a date before you installed NIS.
